We have imported everything from ramen to household items to IT specialists. So it came as no surprise that we also import the latest wind technology from countries like India and China. But when India’s Suzlon wind turbines orders were cancelled by big name American energy companies, the Orient Express seemed to have finally lost its steam.
India and China had the leg up on Western competition because they did not have to take heed of environmental agreements that controlled carbon emissions. But in the frenzy to be the new leading economical powers, quality of production got lost in the shuffle. When it comes to introducing an innovative energy source, technology should never take a backseat. After all, shoddy workmanship on wind turbines has much greater consequences than a toaster that breaks in a week.
