Natural lab shows sea’s acid path
by The Green A-TeamGreen Air Filter:
Sea snails, mollusks, and coral: all things of passing interest at the local aquarium. After all, they are not exactly the most exciting organisms in the world and cannot possibly surpass the excitement of seeing a seal balance a ball on its nose. But with carbon emissions at record highs, these dullards of the ocean are about to face something very exciting to say the least.
As pH level in the ocean drop to an all-time low, ocean life slowly erodes away due to the carbonic acid content created by carbon emissions put in contact with seawater. Much like the lost tribes of the Amazon, the underwater creatures will find their home uninhabitable. But this is not just a plea for sympathy for the trials and tribulations of the sea snail, it is merely a warning to the land lubber of what is to come.
